This is Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County. Use the Criminal Court Clerk for county criminal court records and background-record access.
This is a separate county in the North Carolina Judicial Branch. Its certified/non-certified background-check options follow North Carolina rules.
The same county name can produce a plausible but completely wrong record. Confirm the state before matching a person.
The Nashville Criminal Court Clerk provides public viewing of Davidson County criminal records in the office at no charge.
The office also links free online record summaries. Record the case number and court details from the matching result.
Read the disposition rather than assuming the original charge equals the outcome.
If the receiving party needs documentation, request the relevant page or certified copy from the Clerk.
| Copy type | Published charge |
|---|---|
| Non-certified copy | $0.50 per page. |
| Certified copy | $5 per certification and seal, plus $0.50 per page. |
| Mail request | The Clerk instructions require full payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope; the office asks mail requesters to confirm the charge. |
| Online summary | Free to search, but not the same thing as a certified copy. |
The Nashville search system says some results may not include a date of birth and tells users to verify in the office before using such a result for an official purpose. The system also separates newer CJIS information from legacy data. For older matters or incomplete identifiers, use the Criminal Court Clerk to confirm the person and disposition.
| Record need | Correct starting custodian |
|---|---|
| Court prosecution/disposition | Use the Criminal Court Clerk for prosecution records, dispositions, and court-copy requests. |
| Inmate or jail information | Use the Davidson County Sheriff inmate/public-record route when the question concerns custody or sheriff-held jail information. |
| Police incident report | Use the law-enforcement agency that created the incident report; a court or jail search is not that report. |
| NC option | Scope and status |
|---|---|
| Certified clerk search | One county by name, through the Clerk of Superior Court; published fee $25. |
| Courthouse public-access search | Non-certified; can search a county or statewide without a search fee, with possible printing charges. |
| Portal case information | Useful for finding cases, but N.C. Courts says individuals doing background checks should use the clerk workflow rather than Portal as the substitute. |
Write TN or NC at the top of the request before you search.
Court Clerk for the court file; Sheriff for custody/jail records; another police agency for its incident report.
Use date-of-birth or other permitted identifiers and case details; same name is not enough.
Read the latest disposition, not only the arrest/charge label.
If official proof is required, use the applicable Tennessee Clerk or North Carolina clerk certification route and verify the current fee before paying.
